There are several key facets that make up a successful online business, but web site traffic is among the top.  You could have the greatest web site on the internet, but if nobody is coming to it you are going to have a difficult time keeping it up and running.  Traffic ultimately determines whether or not you have success with your online business. Generating traffic to a new web site is not always the easiest thing to do.  If you think about it there are millions of web sites spread all across the internet and hundreds of thousands being created daily.  Regardless of what kind of business you have, chances are there are thousands of web sites similar to or exactly like yours.

Therefore, you have to come up with a way to generate traffic to your site over your competitors.  It becomes a dogfight to see who can bring in the most traffic and thus create the most income.  But the kind of traffic you bring in also has a say in how successful you are.

Finding your target audience and marketing to them can generate a great deal of traffic for you.  And not only will you be getting a lot of traffic, but you will find it much easier to turn these visitors into customers.  If prospects come to your site already interested, all you have to do is sell them on what you have to offer. Second, you can never have too much traffic.  Once you are beginning to generate a fair amount of traffic the last thing you want to do is stop your marketing efforts.  The second you stop advertising your traffic volume will begin to disintegrate.  Advertising is a constant job that you must do daily until you decide to quit the business. Third, do not be afraid to use multiple advertising techniques.  There is not one method that works for everyone and because of this you have to take the time to figure out what works best for you.  And by using multiple marketing methods you have a better chance of reaching people in multiple locations.

It really does not matter whether you use paid marketing or free marketing as long as you get web site traffic.  Free marketing is going to be more difficult and take more time, but it can be equally effective as paid marketing if done correctly.  Some examples of free marketing include posting in forums, writing an ebook, or writing and submitting articles to article directories.Web site traffic is the ultimate determinate of how successful your site is.  Without traffic coming to your site you will have no business whatsoever.  Between determination, patience, and a strong marketing campaign directed toward your target audience, you will generate a great deal of web site traffic.
